What are you reading?

by Phil Gerbyshak on March 16, 2009

I love to read and learn new things. I frequently read 5 or 6 books at a time.

Right now I’m finishing World Wide Rave and Hit the Ground Running, along with a few other daily meditation/devotional/attitude books. I just finished Smile and Move, and I’ll be doing a book giveaway of it later this week.

I also read several hundred blogs. You can get what I share on Google Reader if you’d like to keep up with me that way by going here.

I’d love to know what you’re reading.

Are you reading any great books?

Are you reading any great blogs?

Is there a great book you’d like to read? I get tons of books to read and review. Perhaps I have the book you want on my bookshelf and I’m done reading it. If I am, I’ll send it to you.

Maybe you’re an author, and the folks reading this blog are the perfect audience for your book or for your new blog. Share your book and your blog below.

Or maybe you could send me your book, and I could read it and review it, or do a book giveaway, or offer your book to someone who wants to read it?

Take a few minutes and share something in the comments.

Let’s learn something TOGETHER!

Hey Phil,
I’m reading “The Slight Edge Secret to a $uccessful Life” by Jeff Olson. It’s my second time around with this book. New insights are always popping out. His motto the doing the right stuff is “easy to do or easy not to do”. You create the slight edge daily by doing the little things that add up to great success in any area of your life. I think you’d love it! Have a great day!

I’m reading “Old Paths” by J.C. Ryle. I am wrestling with the question of the harmony between sanctification and justification. So I thought I’d turn to a Puritan author for guidance. :-)

I’m reading Blue Ocean Strategy by W. Chan Kim and RenĂ©e Mauborgne, and also What Would Google Do? by Jeff Jarvis. Both are excellent reads (the former being a lot meatier) and make a good pair of guideposts into a world that’s changing at hyper-speed around us.

Jeff – I have Blue Ocean Strategy, and I haven’t been able to finish it. Seems like a really great idea…just a little long for me. Meaty indeed :)

Jarvis’ book is interesting…though having read his blog, he may be a little polarizing for my taste.

Hi Phil,

I am reading Change Your Speech, Change the World and Trust Me by Nick Morgan. Great way to look at communications to a group and inter personally. I am also re-reading the Five Love Languages and God Speaks Your Love Language by Dr. Gary Chapman. Between a good personality profile and understanding a person’s love language it makes relationships a breeze…most of the time : ) Thanks for the great blog!

Bryndon – are both books by Nick? I’m only familiar with Trust me. I got to meet Nick and his wife in 2007 at the Author Pow-Wow. He is the real deal!

Hi Phil, I’m reading The Outliers. Great book and it makes a lot of sense. Just finished reading (and reviewing) Barack, Inc. It’s not about politics, it’s about promotions and winning. I highly recommend it.

Yeah, both are by Nick Morgan, easy to read but hard to master : ) Seems to be that way with all the great material. What did you think of Nick when you met him? I’ve been really impressed with how simple yet complex his material is.
Thanks for taking the time to respond!

Nick is a really sharp guy. Very personable. He makes things seem very simple in person, but you’re right, it’s VERY hard to do some of the things he suggests…at least to do them as well as he does them!

I agree with that, but what an awesome challenge to take on. The ability to “truly communicate” with your family/client/friend… it doesn’t get better than that. It is amazing how much easier Nick’s recommendations are when you are truly motivated for the other person’s good. And if you are truly being humble adn transparent then it gets even better.
Thanks for the great blog, it has been a real bright spot in my day : )

You are so right Bryndon. I’m working on the challenge myself!

So glad you’re enjoying the blog. It’s my goal to help YOU make it great!

Just read The Diamond Cutter, the Budda on Managing Your business and Your Life. That was a second go-around for me, always new eyes rereading a book. Also just finished reading Outliers by Malcom Gladstone. Highly recommend it; there will be several aha moments while reading! Now I need some fiction!
