Boy the Internet is one powerful machine. I didn’t realize just HOW powerful until I saw this video. Stats, stats and more stats, all that will make you stand up and say WOW!

Can you believe that back in 1995, Newsweek thought the Internet would fail? Wow!

Of course, now folks say the same thing about social media. Social media is just a trend. Stats, composed of real humans, say otherwise.

Watch the video again. Check out the stats. Then tell me social media is just a fad, a phase, or something that’s going away.

It’s not going to be exactly the same though. Some services may go away. Some more shine more brightly.

But make no mistake: social media, things that are easy to create, easy to share, easy to understand, will not go away. We have the power, as consumers, as publishers, as people who have a real voice. Why would we give that back to a company?

I am an unapologetic fan of Seth Godin. I have read every one of his books and ebooks, his was the first blog I ever read (on accident), read almost every one of his blog posts, own his CD set, and have even gotten to talk to Seth on the phone for an interview for one of his books. His books are great, and have helped me think about many things in the world differently. And though I don’t agree with Seth on EVERYTHING, I do enjoy his work and appreciate the fact he writes on his blog every day.

The video above is like a "best of" Seth Godin. He talks about why his books did so well, and they are all things YOU could do. It’s little over 30 minutes long, and is worth every second you spend watching it.

My take on this video: Don’t do things exactly how Seth does them. Instead, take his ideas and put them to work on YOUR ideas.

I am so amazed how much I can learn, read and write on the internet in mere seconds. It’s crazy to me to realize we have more powerful computers in our hands than our parents and grandparents ever thought possible.

There’s so much about this great big world that we live in that blows my mind. Rather than tell you all the things I am amazed by, I found this nifty video (updated not long ago to show the 2009 numbers) that will show you all the amazing things in our world today.

It’s only 4:46, and if you pay attention, it’ll open your eyes to all the cool changes happening around the world.

What Makes a Viral Wedding Video?

What video am I talking about? Watch the video below. Then keep reading to find out why it worked so well.

So why does this video work?

Lots of reasons probably. I’ll share a few that worked for me.

Authentic participants – The people in the video are normal people. They’re folks you and I can relate to. Heck, they look like people I know, and probably like people YOU know! I love to watch what I can relate to. What about you?

Authentic feelings – You can tell by the look on the faces of the folks dancing that they are really excited to be part of this wonderful day. This WEDDING day! No fake smiles.

Authentic fun – Sure, there’s some choreography that went on but really, these aren’t professional dancers. These folks are dancing their hearts out and sharing that with all of us watching and they are having fun! Even the guests look happy. Again, I can relate to authentic feelings. Can you? Even the pastor looks like she was having a good time. NOT typical for a wedding where folks often look scared, or like they HAVE to be there. They’re smiling because they WANT to be there and because they are having FUN!

Unexpectedness – It’s a wedding ceremony. You don’t expect it to be fun, you expect it to be reverent. Look at the beginning of the video. It starts out traditionally, then it busts out into unexpected fun! How can you not smile when you watch this? Dare ya!

Go ahead, watch it again. Tell me you don’t smile again.

What could you do that was authentic, on an important day, that was fun and unexpected, and that you could share that with your friends and family?

90 Second Relationship Rule

Jim Fannin’s 90 second rule makes a lot of sense. Watch the video. It’s 7 minutes and 15 seconds.

Here’s the gist:

If you’ve been away from someone you care about at least 2 hours, the next 90 seconds have a bigger impact on them than spending hours and hours on them later. Walk in the door and be fully engaged in the moment. Regardless of your day prepare to focus your energy toward the people that matter most. See their every facial and hand gesture. Hear every voice tone or inflection. And if the person you meet is sad, then use a technique inside the 90 second rule called mirroring. Act sad so you can show empathy. Now you can raise them to a higher level of positivity. If the person you meet is happy, be just as happy to keep their level of positivity the same.

Investing those first 90 seconds says:

I love you
I care about you
I value you
I need you in my life

This has been VERY true for me. When I see my friends that I haven’t seen in a long time, I always give them my full attention for at least a few minutes. Then I can reconnect with another friend, and another friend, and another friend.

I do the same thing with my brothers and my other family.

I just never thought of the importance of this connection time before I watched this little video.
