Bottom line up front: If you want to make social media for your personal brand or your corporate brand work for you, buy Six Pixels of Separation by Mitch Joel.
Reviewing Six Pixels of Separation
I got an early galley copy of this book and I dove in right away. I’ve been a big fan of Mitch’s blog for a LONG time, and I was delighted to get an early copy of his book. I dove in quickly and shoved about 100 other books aside, and this book didn’t disappoint.
The book was jam-packed full of stories and examples on how others have succeeded in the online world. I find this is how I learn best, by learning from others’ examples. Mitch went into a good amount of depth, and my favorite story is actually about how he got the book published: He got introduced by someone he met online to his agent, who happened to be wearing socks Mitch had read about on Seth Godin’s blog. VERY cool.
In addition to great stories, Mitch also packed this book full of examples you can use to put this new social media thing into practice.
I hesitate to say this book is a textbook for new media, but it’s the closest I’ve seen. It’s really that good of a book though. If you read this book, and follow the suggestions Mitch makes in the book, and you do it consistently, you can be successful using new media.
Next steps:
Go to Mitch’s site and learn more about the book Six Pixels of Separation. Buy it from Mitch’s site. I don’t want you to think the $.41 I would get for an Amazon associate account would make me share this book with you.

Just bought the Kindle edition after reading your review, Phil. Seemed right somehow to buy it in pixel form!
Hope all is well with you, my friend.

I’m thinking about buying a Kindle for just such a reason…though I get a lot of books to review in hard cover. If that changed, I’d buy a Kindle tomorrow. That, and if for $5 per book I could digitize my library.
All is great here Tammy! Hope you are too!

Phil, I actually use the Kindle app on my iPhone. When I added it (it’s free), I did it as a lark, figuring it would be useless and a poor way to read a book. But I was pleasantly surprised! It’s very readable, I can bookmark pages for later reference, and it’s really intuitive. Who knew?

Now I’m really jealous Tammy. I want an iPhone. Maybe next year.

Phil – I think the greatest thing about this book is that it truly speaks to the entrepreneur in language they can understand. Great work here!
