Lisa Gates over at Scaffolding for Writers (subscribe to her feed and get smarter) tagged me and asked me to share the answers to a few questions about her site. I found the questions so interesting, I thought it would be great if I asked you, my wonderful friends, to tell me what you think about Make It Great!
I know I do not have all the answers to any question, so asking you to share with me what you know will greatly help me be a better blogger, and a better person. Thanks for taking a few minutes to answer any/all of these questions.
1. Whom do you think I’m talking to?
2. Who are you?
3. Why are you here?
4. Why do you come back to my blog?
5. What do you want to read here?
6. What do you think is missing?
7. What is the one thing (wishful?) you truly don’t like about this blog?
I am in the midst of changing some things here, and I really would love to know the answers to these questions before I undergo a massive overhaul of things.
Thanks for helping me Make it a GREAT day!

1. Whom do you think I’m talking to?
When I read your blog, I feel as if you are journaling for yourself, and also sharing that with the world.
2. Who are you?
I am Debra Estep a stay at home Mom. I am also an Air Force Mom and Air Force Mother in law. With my military connection, I am involved in troop support and also supporting other military families via online web sites. When I make time for it, which is not as often as I should, I am also an ~artist~. I have my own blog too, but it’s not something that I direct my daily attention to.
3. Why are you here?
I come on your web site just to see your smiling face Phil !!!
Well, that’s part of it, but also because you write with such enthusiasm and encouragement.
4. Why do you come back to my blog?
See #3 above and also…….
It’s like you and I are both standing and looking at the BIG PICTURE of the world, your writing says to me….
“Tilt your head this way and perhaps things will look a bit different”.
5. What do you want to read here?
Your personal life experiences intertwined with the topics.
I find writer’s who express what brought them to this way of thinking, and the comparison to, “I used to think of it this way”, to be some of the most fascinating reading. It’s like peaking in another persons brain.
6. What do you think is missing?
I have no answer for this, because I don’t feel anything is missing.
7. What is the one thing (wishful?) you truly don’t like about this blog?
Again, no response and that’s a good thing.
I’m new here as of this very moment, so, I’ll have to look around. But, I like your positive attitude!
1. Whom do you think I’m talking to?
Well, if you are anything like the kind of blogger that I am, you are talking to your readers – and yourself. I learn so much just from reading my own blog sometimes.
2. Who are you?
I’m a fellow blogger, who enjoys reading other blogs that inform me, that do not have year long posts – that take forever to read. And I enjoy informing others of tid-bits that I think may help them along.
3. Why are you here?
To see what information treasures you have discovered and hopefully learn something new.
4. Why do you come back to my blog?
I find your blog interesting, and filled with information I can relate to and often pass on to my readers.
5. What do you want to read here?
Just keep up the great work Phil, I like most everything you have written to date. Some I can relate to – some I can’t but it is always interesting.
6. What do you think is missing?
Color!
Honestly my friend, perhaps photos in your posts or other ways to bring in more color, I find that posts that have photos tend to be that much more powerful.
7. What is the one thing (wishful?) you truly don’t like about this blog?
Truly, the complete white background. Perhaps a different color for your sidebars?
I really like your blog Phil, so whatever changes you make, please do it gently. lol
1. Whom do you think I’m talking to?
I think you, Phil Gerbyshak, INTEND to reach anyone who wants to take the “good” in their life to “great,” but the fact is that you’re talking to everybody when you go on the Web. When you give a speech to a group of people, it’s important to know who they are, but when you blog it’s kind of a moot point: you’re opening yourself up to the universe. And that’s a good thing.
2. Who are you?
I’m a diehard word dog and passionate evangelist for transparent communication. Also a 25-year veteran of government and corporate communication management, entrepreneur, wife, mother, friend, and Italophile.
3. Why are you here?
I live in North Dakota but became acquainted with the Central Iowa Blogga Nostra, particularly Timothy Johnson at http://www.carpefactum.com and Mike Sansone at http://www.converstations.com. I think THEY’RE cool, they think YOU’RE cool, so I looked you up and now I think YOU’RE cool!
4. Why do you come back to my blog?
See #3.
5. What do you want to read here?
Deep stuff, helpful stuff, that isn’t “foofy” or goofy or New Age-ish. You always come through for me.
6. What do you think is missing?
Anything can be improved, of course, but I can’t name any dissatifcations with your blog. (P.S. I LOVE the white background!)
7. What is the one thing (wishful?) you truly don’t like about this blog?
Your soundtrack doesn’t play either Led Zeppelin or Mozart.
Look, see what happened? What an incredible response so far.
I can’t be linear right now and comment in the order of (my own, hah) questions, but here’s what comes to mind:
You picture is startlingly inviting and infections. Keep it.
I agree with Debra, we respond most to the personal story mixed with what you’re inviting us to learn.
Change is good, so if you feel like painting your blog canvas yellow for a while…no, never mind that. Simple is good.
I come to your blog because your humanity is everywhere, and you’re smart and connected and offer great links that teach me something new.
I think that because you have established such incredible credibility, any changes or features or processes you might add will be welcomed by your readers. And if they don’t care for the changes, they will likely tell you because the door is always open.
Like right now.
Wow. Appreciation is fun. If I had something critical to say, I would, but I don’t.
I’m positive there’s nothing negative about Make It Great! so here are answers to the first five questions:
1. Whom do you think I’m talking to? me! (and lots of other people who want to make it great too, but it feels like a personal connection.)
2. Who are you? Rosemary Honn of the Daily PlanIt
3. Why are you here? My daily dose of positivity.
4. Why do you come back to my blog? See above
5. What do you want to read here? Good information and your thoughts about it.
