I love this, and I’m curious as to the thought and guts it took from the employees who coordinated this. (I first saw this here, though I believe now it was first reported here).
Many employees complain about how terrible the people they work for are, but they NEVER do anything about it. Often people commiserate and simply just whine about things and NEVER take action. I know I sure have. 1 job I had I almost coordinated a walkout of the entire staff because of faulty leadership, but ultimately it didn’t happen because many people on my team needed to feed their families and couldn’t afford to leave. I’d love to say that I was the brave one and that I left, and lived happily ever after at another job, and everyone else stayed and lived unhappily ever after. That would be a lie. I stayed the course for a little longer until I found a new job, and then I left. Not before.
As a manager, I realize that if my employees leave, it is probably as a direct result of my (mis) management more than it is anything else. Many employees leave a company for the exact same job at another company, sometimes for less money, sometimes for equaly money, and sometimes for more money. Any of these 3 scenarios mean that the manager failed this person. I might have failed them by not motivating them to do more and achieve more, I might have failed them by not providing them the opportunity they felt they deserved (or at least not educating them as to why they didn’t get the position in another area of the firm instead of someone else), or by failing to work with senior leaders to explain why more money is needed for this particular associate. Sometimes, admittedly, associates don’t earn a chance at more greatness and they have an inflated vision of self. This is rarely the case, if as a manager I am taking the time to explain what is needed to get to the next level and if I’ve done a good job on their weekly meetings, semi-annual reviews, and annual performance evaluations.
This picture makes me wonder a few things…
Would anyone have the guts to do this at a corporate job, and if so, is this the right answer at a corporation?
What kind of a dolt would be so insensitive to his/her employeees needs as to let things go this far?
Is this guy still employeed, or is this just a Photoshop trick?
What message does this send to the employees who stay?
How miserable would you have to be to leave like this?
Just some thoughts. What do YOU think?
Make it a great day!

You’ve gotta love emancipation!
For a minute, I thought one of your Technorati tags was ‘bald leadership’ not ‘bad leadership.’
I’m a little disappointed. I was going to look into that.

Bad Bosses – Real
Found this great post on Phil Gerbyshak’s blog about a group of employees who publicly posted their letter of resignation. Whatever it was that led them to this point, one can only imagine … if only their boss had listened
