This morning I am sitting in a hotel room in downtown Salt Lake City, enjoying a nice cup of hotel room coffee, piping hot, in a porcelain cup, and I’m reminded of a post my good buddy Jodee Bock recently wrote called Coffee In a Cardboard Cup – That’s the Trouble.

Make a pact to give yourself five minutes sometime during the day to just BE. Get up from what you’re doing and look out the window. Enjoy the sun (or the moon or the rain or the wind, whatever the case may be at that moment). If you have to, set an alarm that will remind you to get up and BE just for those 5 minutes. You’ll be more focused and energized if you allow YOU to be part of your day.

And then I was also reminded of the Generosity of Silence post I read, and re-read, several times at my dear friend Rosa’s place.

This is such a wonderful thought that you can honor someone else with the respect of your silence.

I’m taking those 5 minutes to enjoy my cup of coffee, and to be silent, while I look out the window at the mountains. Actually, I’ll be taking those 5 minutes to BE in 1 minute…Just as soon as I finish this post.

Enjoy the coffee in a porcelain cup, and the silence, and make it a great day!

Phil:

In the mountains … what a great place to BE! Enjoy the change of scenery because it will allow you to appreciate the sights and sounds and smells of Milwaukee all the more when you get back! Sometimes it takes a physical change of location to give us a boost when we’re working on mental/emotional/spiritual changes of perspective. Thanks for sharing all of your experiences so that we might be reminded of our own!

Phil, I can’t think of a better place or way) to enjoy those five minutes than a view of glorious mountains and a hot cup o’joe! Enjoy your stay in SLC – big difference from Milwaukee, that’s for sure. All the best.

Good reminder Phil. I would recommend trying to find more than five minutes for yourself every day if you’re able to. The time I take out for myself really helps me be far more productive when I’m busy doing work for others.

Hope SLC is treating you well.
